Now Playing Tracks

E3!

EDIT: I originally intended on changing the posting schedule to Monday Wendesday Friday, but Don and I found that was too much of an effort, so now we just do Mondays, like a boss. :D

DOUBLE EDIT: Now even ONCE a week seems to be difficult. This may just turn into a “whenever I feel like it deal” or an “I’m totally ditching this project” kind of thing.

I probably should have had this posted this morning, but I just started doing some weight lifting in the morning, which requires me to get up at like 6:30 in the morning. I figure I have to, since pretty much all of my exercise up to now has been cardio, whether it’s running or DDR, although it’s mostly DDR.

My posts were FURTHER delayed when I updated my RSS feeds in the morning only to realize that I had 200 updates to sift though, with almost all of them being from Kotaku. E3 coverage will literally kill of all of your time for a whole week, and I’ve been following pretty intensely, specifically angry at Microsoft. (If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m sure a few quick searches will do the trick. It should be slightly obvious).

My pre-E3 period was spent playing Black Ops for free on Steam. I forked out about 10 hours on that piece of crap, and I hate Black Ops. Counter Strike: Source is 10x a better game than Black Ops, especially since I can bunny-hop in it. Guns are balanced, the game requires skill to play, there’s tons of user-generated content, free updates, and it’s built on Valve’s Source engine. Come on, it’s win! I would ramble more about this but it’s just plain obvious that this game is better than Black Ops. I actually just got COD4 and I can’t wait to start playing COD4 instead of Black Ops. Only good game is One in the Chamber. :P

I never understood how powerful the consequences of alcohol were until my cousin got married over this past weekend. Literally, Catholic priests taking vodka shots and singing, people throwing up in my yard (for real), crashing on MY bed, somebody gave their phone number to a girl and told her to call him (which makes absolutely no sense), and among other things. Now don’t get me wrong: this IS a wedding reception, so they’re bound to have fun and they DID have fun, but you have to think that it’s pretty scary that a single night with alcohol can create such drastic effects. I guess it’s another one of those things you don’t really understand until you’re affected directly.

With drumline starting up again this summer, that also means that freshmen are coming up to play with us. To be honest, even with people on my own grade, I’m severely disappointed: the only player that’s just as good as me is in pit (which can be a good or a bad thing, since I love front-line percussion), the battery is generally weak because our most coordinated players aren’t on bassline, and there’s no source of inspiration or strong role models to push us through. I am constantly looking up DCI/WGI videos, and just doing what I love whenever I can because it’s something that I really enjoy, and I wish other people could have that same push that I do. High schools like Arcadia HS and Chino Hills HS have insane indoor percussion groups that compete in WGI PSW, and I hope I can compete in PIW during my senior year. Kids like those are the people that I long to be like, (and to be honest I feel like I’m making a lot of progress making it there), but our drumline as a whole just isn’t hitting that point. Drumlines have a reputation of slacking off a lot, which I think is okay, but when we can’t get down to business, it’s really disappointing. With the new set of kids coming up, 3/10 kids were assigned to bass drum, snare drum, and tenor. The tenor player is too short to play his instrument, the snare and bass player are actually doing very well, but I just wish they would ask more questions or talk more or something because I’d be open to help if they needed it! The other 7 are playing cymbals, which I think is ridiculous. Can you believe that only a third of them can read music, and drumline ONLY HAS TO READ RHYTHMS! It’s ridiculous. But whatever. Summer band is going to be awesome, band camp is going to be awesome, and our school is gonna rock playing Buswackers 09 music. :D

Bleh. I wish I could write more. Don and I have uber ADD and can’t do something like this. :P
